About the Artist

Luz Maria finds inspiration in the impact of light, color and atmospheric conditions on emotions. Impressionism has been her dominant style influenced by Monet, Turner and Sorolla.

For her, every art work is a source meditation as well as a quest for experimentation, many times with unexpected results.  Her imagination and her extensive travel experiences are instrumental in guiding her creative path.

Luz Maria  is currently exploring abstraction and mixed media in more depth, challenging herself to be more daring and spontaneous.

My Story

Born in Peru, I have traveled extensively and lived in major cosmopolitan cities like Washington DC, New York, London, São Paulo, and Miami.  Moving to Brazil in 1995 was a turning point in my development as an artist.  My career in the international nonprofit sector became secondary as I embarked on a creative journey that continues to this day.

Currently, I paint in a shared studio in Chevy Chase, where I returned after many years away, and in Miami, where I have a private studio.  My works are part of private collections in the US, Europe, and South America.

Exhibitions

I participated in several group exhibitions in Brazil from 1997 to 1999, including shows at Jardins Art Gallery (1998), the Chapel Art Show (1999) in São Paulo, and the Salvador Museum of Art (1999). Since 2005, I have exhibited regularly in Miami, showcasing my work at venues such as Missura Galleries (2004), the Riviera Art Show (2010, 2016), Fusion Art Galleries (2013), Art Nexus—a satellite of Art Basel (2016), and the Junior League Art Show (2017).

For over two decades, I have been based in Miami, working out of my private studio in Coconut Grove. My work has been featured in various local galleries, including the Coconut Grove Gallery. Since 2022, I have also maintained a studio in Chevy Chase at City Line Studios, a collaborative space shared with nine other artists. Our inaugural group show took place in September 2022, and we are actively organizing additional exhibitions across the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
